Program Overview

IFALPES, the Institut Français des Alpes, with two sites -- Annecy or Chambéry -- specializes in the teaching of French language courses. The methodology is direct and communicative, and the program is intensive -- four hours or more daily. The student body is drawn from countries around the world, not just American students. The academic program is under the supervision of the Université Catholique de Lyon and is identical in Chambéry and Annecy. The administrative offices and classrooms of IFALPES Chambéry are housed in the IPAC School of Management building so students have a daily contact with French students.Annecy is located at the feet of the Alpine massifs and sits on the purest lake of Europe and has breathtaking scenery. Known as the "Venice of the Alps, with its canals, Old Town, lake, castles, famous hotels and restaurants, Annecy is a bustling city all year round with lots to see and do. Annecy offers students cultural and athletic activities within a very pleasant urban environment. Chambéry, the capital of Savoy is a charming city of art and history where students can easily meet the locals and discover the French culture. It is also the gateway to world famous ski resorts Courchevel, Tignes, Val d'Isère and the regional, natural parks of Chartreuse, the Bauges and the Vanoise National Park.

IFALPES

IFALPES is a leading French language training institute that operates in cooperation with institutes and academic institutions both in France and abroad. IFALPES has the "Qualité FLE" accreditation from the French Ministry of Education. The student body is international, not just American students, with students from many nations who are in France to learn French.

Academic Highlights

The Institute is open all year round. French language courses: beginning, intermediate, advanced are specifically designed for those interested in learning or becoming more proficient in the French language. The teaching methods are based on active participation by students (Communicative Method) and the scope of the program includes understanding, speaking, reading, writing and cross-cultural studies. The academic program is under the supervision of the Université Catholique de Lyon. The goal of the Institute is to encourage the use of spoken French by students outside of classes.

Activities and Opportunities

Student Life

A meal plan, usually breakfast and evening meal, is available in “demi-pension” arrangement in the French homestay. Students in dorms are normally responsible for meals. International student body. Planned excursions at extra cost. Summer program offers hiking, boating, visits to historical and cultural sites, led by an IFALPES staff member.

"Chambery is a quaint little town that I very enjoyed living in. Since I was born and raised in Miami, it was especially nice to live in a small city and get the feel for their way of life. As for the bad reputation of the French here in the states, I have made it my personal mission to correct it. Everywhere I went people were very kind, considerate, and incredibly helpful. School itself was a pleasure to attend, The chateau where schooling took place was located on a beautiful park, which consisted of several rose gardens. After class I loved sitting in the park and taking in the scenery. The school also offered a variety of excursions throughout the week that made assimilating much easier. In five weeks, I took approximately 800 pictures and have made friends around the world during this once in a lifetime experience!"

Minimum GPA 2.5 on 4.0 scale; freshman standing or higher; transcript; two letters of recommendation and statement of purpose.

Truman requires a $300 deposit upon acceptance to the program. Miami-Dade charges a $130 application fee

How do I apply?

Start the CCIS Study Abroad application process by downloading the forms. To download, right click on the application or recommendation form and click "save as", then save the form to your desktop or downloads. Once you have completed your form, SAVE IT FIRST!!!! DO NOT CLICK "SUBMIT" until you have SAVED your form or the recipient will receive a BLANK form. Once you have saved it, click "submit" and THEN email your completed form as an attachment to the contact email address associated with the program in which you are applying. If for some reason you do not see the email address pop up when you click "submit", then email the application to the program sponsor listed here on this page.
