One way to immerse yourself in the Kiwi culture and make new friends is to live amongst Kiwi students. At the Auckland campus, students can choose from university managed apartments (off-campus - self catered). Students enjoy the social environment and recreational events organized between the Massey housing facilities. Accommodation is within a short distance from central campus and guaranteed to international students.
The Campus is fast developing a vibrant student life, with regular social activities organized by the Albany Student Association, and many other events organized by international and cultural clubs and individual colleges. Within walking distance of the campus is a large shopping centre where students can shop and browse, and just down the road is the Albany village with its traditional shops. The campus is surrounded by a wide range of amenities, including numerous cafés, shopping centers, cinema complexes, art galleries, libraries, a performing arts facility, and extensive leisure and sport facilities including the North Harbor Sports Stadium.
The North Shore city region covers 120km of coastline and includes more than 30 sandy swimming beaches. Part of the North Shore's appeal is that it is just a short drive from the city lights and downtown lifestyle of central Auckland, yet it has a real community feel and beachside character. North Shore city is served by motorway links to Auckland and the International Airport as well as to major rail and ferry terminals. City bus services are efficient, well developed and relatively inexpensive.
The international student orientation is compulsory to all new students and is a great way to be introduced to life in New Zealand such as a BBQ and formal dinner, enjoy guest speakers, check course enrolments, and find out anything you need to know about services and support available on campus. It is also a chance to meet fellow study abroad students and key university staff. Various optional activities organized by the Student Association include live concerts, sports days, a Bizarre Ball, a Toga Party, Drive in Movies and city tours.
