Academic Profile
La Universidad Catulica de Santiago de Guayaquil is located in the commercial, import-export hub of Ecuador. La Universidad Catulica is a private, non-profit institution of higher learning that has achieved high prestige in the community. Catulica has an attractive campus and a very active student life, including numerous social and recreational facilities as well as computer labs. The campus is served by public transportation. More than 5,500 students are enrolled in degree programs such as Architecture, Law, Business, Sociology, Education, Literature, Communications, Psychology, Economics and Engineering.
The program combines intensive Spanish language instruction (beginning through advanced) with the study of Ecuadorian history and culture. Students earn 7 credits in Spanish language in the short-term sessions. In addition to a 4 credit core Spanish course, students take a 3 credit Special Topics Conversation class that takes advantage of the city and local culture. A GPA of 2.5, as well as an official transcript, two letters of recommendation, and a statement of purpose are required for admission to the program, which is open to students from freshman through graduate level standing.

Academic Program
In the four-week programs offered in January and July, students are introduced to Ecuador by
combining intensive Spanish language and Ecuadorian culture study with home0stay
arrangements and organized field trips. Students enroll in two courses for six to eight credits.
Spanish instruction places a heavy emphasis upon oral communication and uses an interaction
methodology. CCIS students receive personalized attention in the small classes ranging from
two to eight students.
