Academic Profile
The Institute for American universities is located in Aix-en-Provence, in the south of France. With a population of 130,000, Aix is one of the major university, legal, and cultural centers of France. Its lovely winding streets and sunny squares, lined with churches, cafes, and theatres, have captured the attention of many artists. Aix has easy access to Paris, Geneva, London, and other major European cities. The Institute for American Universities, chartered by the Board of Regents of The State University of New York, was founded in 1957 under the auspices of the Universitè d'Aix-Marseille, and is one of the oldest and largest education abroad programs of its type in Europe. Course Offerings
Le Centre d'Aix is where all students enrolled in the Institute's programs take their liberal arts classes. In the Humanities and Social Sciences, one may take virtually all courses in English. Naturally, all French studies classes are in French. Students may take courses in French Language (beginning, intermediate, advanced), Literature, Culture, Art and Archeology including Art History and Studio Art. European / International Studies and Social Sciences: International Business, Comparative Literature, Economics, Education, History, Philosophy, Political Science, and Psychology. The Institute also offers focused programs with concentration in Archeology, Art History, European Studies, and International Affairs. Qualified students, enrolled either during spring semester or for a full academic year and, pending approval, may audit two courses at the French university, l'Universitè d'Aix-Marseille. A stateside U.S. transcript is arranged for students from U.S. institutions requiring same.
