Program Overview

The American University of Rome is set in the capital of Italy.  Known as The Eternal City, Rome is filled with legacies of the part, such as the Roman Forum and the Coliseum.  Contemporary Rome offers a host of activities, notably theater.  Rome is also an important center for the study of international relations and international business.

American University of Rome in Rome

Founded in 1969 as an independent, coeducational, four-year institution, The American University of Rome is located in a beautiful villa on Rome’s highest hill, the Janiculum, on the right bank of the Tiber River.  The four-story villa and an adjacent five-story building have a complete range of facilities, including classrooms, art and design studios, a student lounge, computer laboratories, faculty and administrative offices and classrooms.  Off-campus facilities include a one-hundred seat auditorium an art studio, design and architecture studios, faculty office, and the library.  Surrounded by its own garden, the campus is close to major parks of Villa Sciarra and Villa Pamphili, and the renowned American Academy.  The university has an international enrollment of approximate 550 students each year, and its faculty comes from leading educational, business, and government centers throughout Europe and the United States.

Course Offerings

Italian Civilization and Culture, Business, Communication, International Relations, Italian Language. The language of instruction is English with the exception of the language classes. Students take two three-credit courses.

 


Activities and Opportunities

Student Life

Although the university does not have its own residence halls, students may elect for AUR to arrange housing for them.  Students who choose AUR facilitated housing are placed in furnished apartments in areas surrounding the university.  Students are responsible for their own meals.  As a complement to the academic program, students participate in mandatory course-related field visits.  In addition, optional excursions are offered by the Student Life Department to place such as Venice, Pompeii, Florence and Assisi.

Eligibility Requirements

A 2.5 GPA, official transcripts, one letter of recommendation, and a statement of purpose are necessary for admission to the program.

Costs

$3,255 (NY residents/CCIS members)
Non-NY Residents should contact the College of Staten Island for the cost information.

Instructional costs abroad, administrative fees, orientation, Sickness & Accident Insurance

Costs Not Included

Airfare ($1000-$1250), books ($100), room ($1,525), meals ($700), course related fees ($50), field trips ($240-$420), Art in Rome lab fee ($50), personal costs ($700), and school of record fee
