Student Life & Housing

Student Life

Interaction with locals and other international students is key to a successful study abroad experience. Many campus activities, e.g., Noche Internacional, showcase UB's strong international student program. Joining a student club or sports team is a great way to meet local students--soccer, running and yoga are just a few options. Attending concerts, trying the tango, or spending a lazy Sunday afternoon picking through the colorful streets and flea market of San Telmo are just a few of the possibilities. There's so much to discover in and around Buenos Aires-one can even visit neighboring Uruguay for the day! Learn more about sports at UB: http://www.ub.edu.ar/deportes.php

Housing

Students at UB have the option to participate in a homestay or to stay in a residence hall or student apartment. Additionally, if a participating student has friends or family in the area they would like to stay with, they can make the choice to opt out of UB housing arrangements.

Students are provided lodging with an Argentine host family, which allow students to further develop their language skills outside of a classroom setting and increase their understanding of modern Argentine culture. The assigned host family is likely to live within easy reach of the university in a pleasant, secure neighborhood; the daily commute will be no more than a short bus ride or a reasonable walk. The home might be found in a century-old heritage structure or a contemporary apartment building. The program fee includes a private room with two meals per day (breakfast and dinner).

“I feel that my Spanish increased exponentially and the program really helped me to not only learn, but fall in love with the language.”

Jillian

I absolutely loved this program! I have always wanted to study abroad and doing it through CCIS was perfect because it was 1. affordable and 2. fit right in with my summer schedule. I decided to go to Buenos Aires because I took 6 years of spanish in high school but I really want to work abroad and live in another country after graduation. My spanish skills were good, but nowhere near te conversational fluency I desired so what better than to live in another country that speaks it in order to get better?? My homestay was the greatest, my host mom was the best cook and we frequently had conversations while doing it together, she is like my Argentinian Grandmother and has said I am always welcome back to stay in her home when I return. The academics at the uni were rigorous, but very doable. I felt empowered and encourage, you really get out of it what you put into it.
