Students are invited to study during fall, spring, and summer at the USIL Extension Campus in Cusco, the site of the historic capital of the Inca Empire. Cusco is located about an hour flight from Lima and has half a million residents.
Students take Spanish classes or coursework in English in a stunning 16th century building with ancient Incan stones lining the walls which is a short walk from the center square. In addition to classrooms and administrative offices, the school offers WI-FI, a computer lab, student lounge, courtyard, and garden. The city is adorned with architectural marvels, cobblestone streets, and serves as gateway to Machu Picchu—one of the New Seven Wonders of the World!

Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola in Cusco
Students take courses in USIL’s recently opened international center, which is housed in a 16th-century building with ancient Incan stones lining the classroom walls. Classes are small and interactive, providing students with more personalized attention from the instructors.
Each course is three credits and students are encouraged to enroll in 12 - 15 USIL credits each semester. Spanish language courses are offered at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. Whether or not students speak Spanish, a wealth of coursework is offered in English in a variety of topics in business, architecture, environmental and health sciences, history, tourism, and more. Click here to check out all of the exciting coursework options.
USIL organizes student live events such as salsa lessons, soccer matches, service-learning opportunities, cultural workshops, and more! Cusco itself, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, boasts a world-famous cathedral, beautiful churches and museums such as the Museum of Precolombian Art, and the center for traditional Cusqueño textiles. Travel within the region is convenient and affordable, and program staff and faculty are more than happy to provide excellent recommendations for exploring all Peru has to offer.
Students participating in this program will live with a local Peruvian family. This is a great way to become immersed in the Spanish Language and the Peruvian culture.
Students are provided their own room and three meals a day, seven days a week. Usually, students are placed 1 per family. However, students can request to be placed with families who can accommodate more than one student. Homestays are located 15-25 minutes from USIL and the city center. Students should plan and budget for public transportation to and from school.
Students will be picked up from the airport in Cusco by their host families and will be dropped off at the airport upon departure. There is a housing coordination team in Cusco to ensure students are happy and healthy in their accommodations.
