Program Overview

Students are invited to study during fall, spring, and summer at the USIL Extension Campus in Cusco, the site of the historic capital of the Inca Empire. Cusco is located about an hour flight from Lima and has half a million residents.

Students take Spanish classes or coursework in English in a stunning 16th century building with ancient Incan stones lining the walls which is a short walk from the center square. In addition to classrooms and administrative offices, the school offers WI-FI, a computer lab, student lounge, courtyard, and garden. The city is adorned with architectural marvels, cobblestone streets, and serves as gateway to Machu Picchu—one of the New Seven Wonders of the World!

Academics & Program

Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola in Cusco

Students take courses in USIL’s recently opened international center, which is housed in a 16th century building with ancient Incan stones lining the classroom walls. Classes are small and interactive, providing students with more personalized attention from the instructors. Each course is three credits and students are encouraged to enroll in 12 - 15 USIL credits each semester.

Spanish language courses are offered at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. Whether or not students speak Spanish, a wealth of coursework is offered in English in a variety of topics in business, architecture, environmental and health sciences, history, tourism, and more. Student Life & Housing

With salsa lessons, soccer matches, service-learning opportunities, cultural workshops, and more, students have a wealth of opportunities available to them at the school. Cusco itself, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, boasts a world famous cathedral, beautiful churches and museums such as the Museum of Precolombian Art, and the center for traditional Cusqueño textiles. Travel within the region is convenient and affordable, and program staff and faculty are more than happy to provide excellent recommendations for exploring all Peru has to offer.

Students have two different housing options. The first option includes living in shared, furnished apartments at La Casa Don Ignacio, a student residence conveniently located near the central square, Plaza de Armas, which is close to many stores and restaurants (www.casadedonignacio.com). The student residence offers all the amenities a student would need such as 24-hour front desk, first aid kit, airport pick-up upon arrival, wireless internet, computer room, dining room, TV, laundry service and safe deposit box.

Students living at Casa Don Ignacio will also enjoy daily breakfast served in the dining room. Decorated in Incan-style furniture and bright colors, the Casa Don Ignacio provides students with a pleasant place to stay during their time in Cusco. The second choice is the homestay option which allows students to live with a local Peruvian family. Students are usually provided their own room and three meals a day, seven days a week. Often times there is another student living in the house which allows them to work on homework together or share in the expense of taking the 10-15 minute, approximately $1.20 taxi ride to downtown. Students will be picked up from the airport in Cusco by their host families and will be dropped off at the airport upon departure. There is onsite support in Cusco to ensure students are happy and healthy in their accommodations.
