Program Overview

DIS – Study Abroad Scandinavia, founded in 1959, has 50 years of experience in offering high quality study abroad programming in Copenhagen, Denmark taught in English for upper-level U.S. undergraduate students. In the 2016-2017 academic year, Stockholm was added as a location due to high demand for DIS programs. DIS is a non-profit educational foundation governed by an external board of directors. It is tuition driven, but receives a subsidy from the Danish government.

In Sweden, modernity meets tranquility. Trend-setting restaurants and vibrant nightclubs next to idyllic architecture. Your semester abroad will be peaceful and beautiful in the picturesque Swedish capital, and the most populous city in the Nordic countries. The city is spread across 14 islands by the Baltic Sea. Stockholm is the cultural, media, political, and economic center of Sweden. Your term in this important global city will allow you to earn credit towards your CSI degree while exploring the host city of the annual Nobel Prize ceremonies. You can travel around the city using well decorated Stockholm metro, the longest art gallery in the world.

Academics & Program

Courses are taught in English and designed for upperlevel undergraduates (3rd-4th year). Some DIS programs also admit graduate students. At DIS, you build your own curriculum. You pick a core course from among the seven different programs on offer, and, following that, you freely select any electives from among the extensive list of liberal arts courses as long as you meet individual course prerequisites and there are no scheduling conflicts.

Unique among European study abroad programs, DIS places significant emphasis on study tours as a fully integrated component of the academic program.

Courses and Credits: Semester program students must take at least 12 credits and may take up to 15, including no more than five three-credit classes (or three three-credit and one six-credit class).

Note: A Swedish language course is required.

Programs offered include Gender & Sexuality Studies, Global Economics, International Relations, Literature, Medical Practice & Policy, Psychology, Public Health, and Terrorism & Security.

Student Life & Housing

In some housing sites, DIS students live with other DIS students, and in others, DIS students share the building with local students. You will be placed in a housing site depending on which summer sessions and courses you are enrolled in.  For more information about housing placement, check out DIS' summer housing placement pabe here.
