Student Life
One way to immerse yourself in the Kiwi culture and make new friends is to live amongst Kiwi students. At the Wellington campus, students can choose from university managed Flats or Apartments (off-campus - self catered). Students enjoy the social environment and recreational events organized between the Massey housing facilities. Accommodation is within a short distance from central campus and guaranteed to international students.
Student life is not just about studying and so Massey provides you with a range of indoor and outdoor recreational, cultural and leisure programmes through the Recreation and Student Association Centres at each campus. Wellington is New Zealand 's capital city and a great place to live. It is a compact city, set between a magnificent harbor and rolling green hills, where shops, exciting galleries and great restaurants are within easy walking distance. The Wellington campus is centrally located near the city's artistic and entertainment quarters of Cuba Street and Courtenay Place.
Wellington is the home of the country's national museum, Te Papa Tongarewa, the International Festival of the Arts, the Wearable Art Awards, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Weta Workshop, the Westpac Stadium (where you can watch the All Blacks play!) and the renowned entertainment district in Courtenay Place.
The city caters for nature lovers as well; with beautiful beaches, mountain biking and walking tracks and a wildlife sanctuary. Over 60% of Wellington's residents live within 3km of the sea. Wellington is also home to New Zealand's Parliament and government service sector.
The international student orientation is compulsory to all new students and is a great way to be introduced to life in New Zealand such as a BBQ and formal dinner, enjoy guest speakers, check course enrolments, and find out anything you need to know about services and support available on campus. It is also a chance to meet fellow study abroad students and key university staff. Various optional activities organized by the Student Association include live concerts, sports days, a Bizarre Ball, a Toga Party, Drive in Movies and city tours.
