Program Overview

Queen’s University Belfast, founded in 1845 by Queen Victoria, with a student body of 24,000, is located in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Queen’s has become one of the most respected universities in the UK, and its research tradition has gained it an international reputation. Queen's University is currently ranked in the top 1% of Universities throughout the world.  Their faculties of art, science, law, commerce, applied science and technology, agriculture and theology, allow for academic flexibility. Along with academics, Queen’s offers over 150 clubs and societies based in the Students’ Unions catering for almost every type of interest.

Queen’s University Belfast has a record of academic achievement which stretches back more than 150 years. Queen’s opened in 1849 when the first students entered the new college building designed and built by Charles Lanyon. Since then, the University estate has grown to more than 300 buildings. The first group of students numbered 90; today there are some 24,000.

Queen’s offers an enriching curriculum through a variety of programs which include: Irish Studies, Byzantine Studies, History & Anthropology, Sociology, etc. The Irish Studies program offers a unique opportunity to examine Irish culture, history and politics in the north and south of the island, enabling those who participate to witness the unfolding of history as it happens.

Course Offerings

A wide range of courses is available and students may register in virtually any subject (with the exception of medicine). Students may choose classes offered in the faculties of art, science, law, commerce, applied science and technology, agriculture and theology. Students earn up to 15 undergraduate credits in this program; the program is open to students at the undergraduate level with at least a 3.0 GPA. No matter what your major is there should be course offerings to suit your needs.

Activities and Opportunities

Student Life

There are over 150 clubs and societies based in the Students’ Unions catering for almost every type of interest. There are sports clubs (e.g. trampoline club), academic societies (e.g. politics society) and non-sporting societies (e.g. Dragonslayers).

Housing

International students at Queen’s are housed at the Queen’s Elm Student Village, located within easy walking distance of the University in a pleasant residential area. All accommodation is self-catering, with shared common areas and kitchen, with en suite options and internet access available.  The living is apartment like style blocks that are three stories high each floor with 10-11 bedrooms and a shared kitchen and common room. 

Close by amenities include: 

  • The Treehouse Bar and Restaurant: Offering a wide range of food and drink, this is an ideal place for you to meet your fellow residents and friends to enjoy a meal, have a drink with friends, watch Sky Sports or play a game of pool or air hockey. Entertainment is organised throughout each week to suit all tastes, including regular quiz and music events and promotions
  • Mace at Elm's Village:  For all your shopping needs; it also has a deli section which offers hot and cold snacks, ready meals, frozen goods and useful items such stationery.
  • Local ATM with no service charge
  • 18 washers and driers
  • The Student Lounge equipped with large TV's and comfortable seating for you and your friends.
  • Vacuum and cleaning supply rentals.

    Eligibility Requirements

    A 3.0 GPA is required for participation in this program and the program is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors.

    $10,200  (includes tuition, fees, CISI insurance, orientation)
